Installing Silverlight 2 Beta 1 in Windows

Silverlight will automatically prompt you for installation once you access a web page containing a Silverlight application. Please note that there are two versions of Silverlight which may require you to uninstall a previous installation. To watch a video of the installation experience in Windows, click here for Microsoft Internet Explorer installations or here for Firefox installations.

For Internet Explorer For Mozilla Firefox
The browser will prompt you to either run or save the installation file (Silverlight.2.0.exe).
Click Run to start the download. When the download is finished, the browser prompts you again to run the installer.
Click Run to start the installation.
Note that you must have sufficient administrative privileges to install Silverlight.
Save Silverlight.exe to your hard disk.
Once the download is finished, click Open.
The installation starts.


Now install Silverlight 2 Beta 1

To install Silverlight 2 Beta 1 without going to a web page containing an existing Silverlight application, download and install the files from the Microsoft web site

Installing Silverlight 2 Beta 1 in Mac

Silverlight will automatically prompt you for installation once you access a web page containing a Silverlight application. Please note that there are two versions of Silverlight which may require you to uninstall a previous installation. To watch a video of the installation experience in Mac, click here for Safari installations or here for Firefox installations.

Make sure you are running a Silverlight-compatible Macintosh operating system and browser and that you have uninstalled any previous version of Silverlight or code name "WPF/E." Note that there are different installation paths for Firefox and Safari.

For Apple Safari For Mozilla Firefox
Once the download is finished, the browser will warn you that Silverlight.2.0.dmg contains an application.
To proceed with the installation, click Continue.
Save Silverlight.dmg to your hard disk.
Once the download is finished, click Open.
Double-click Silverlight.pkg.


Now install Silverlight 2 Beta 1 At this point you will need to restart your browser to activate the plugin, so it is recommended that you bookmark the page you are accessing in advance of installing Silverlight.

Uninstalling Silverlight from Macintosh

  1. Access your hard drive
    Double-click the hard drive icon on your desktop
  2. Find the plugin
    Navigate to your Internet Plug-Ins directory: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
  3. Remove the plugin
    Drag any of the following into your trash bin:
    Silverlight.plugin
    WPFe.plugin
  4. Extra Files
    Also be sure to delete any files related to Silverlight in /Library/Receipts/
